Quite the Story Teller,Lol! Gotta love George!

George plays great but I have trouble listening to him after a few minutes. A bit too much color for me and his approach in discussing things is just not my cup of tea. Just give him a guitar and he speaks quite well.

I guess his 'real' D'Angelico isn't for sale unless he doesn't have it anymore

16 people have it in their "CART". It'll be gone soon.

There's a Keith Richards Telecaster on eBay for $1 Mill too. Maybe someone should tell George that he is not a rock star?

Maybe someone should suggest to Keith that he raised the prize?

I'll pay the full $1000 of the new cost. He can pocket the $450 profit, only if it's in the original condition.
I find this sale disappointing and had hoped the guitars would have been donated to a cause to further neophyte musicians. But maybe I'm missing something.
I bought several guitars at the Gretsch auction a few years ago. Those were donated to the auction with proceeds going to charity.
OTOH, we live in an opportunistic country. He's entitled to do what he wants.

One more thing. It's not a good look to hawk your precious stuff. It gives me the feel that his career was motivated by money. It's just not the same as the artist who lives in poverty, has women trouble, cuts off his ear, and loses his mind! It's more the entrepenaur artist model.
I suspect that the reality is that he did suffer for his art, he was at the top of his game for a long time, he worked hard, and deserves everything he's got. That story lacks the romance of the starving artist who isn't fully appreciated until after his death.

Money is how we keep score. George did well in that regard. Kudos to him. He is clearly smart, tough and a better guitar player than anyone posting on this forum will ever be. In fact, he is one of the best guitar players ever. Of any genre.
Thank you Mr. Benson for the music. You have been a great inspiration to me and countless others. I stand on your shoulders and at the same time, in your shadows.

I think it's kind of cool that a jazz musician was actually able to enjoy the fruits of his labor during his lifetime as opposed to someone like Van Gogh who never sold any of his paintings and killed himself as a pauper, meanwhile they're realizing skazillions today.
We don't know what GB's gonna do w the proceeds but should we really think he should donate them?
Probably not a fair expectation.

Kudoes to George. Sell the guitars for what the market will bear.
He has 7 kids, so maybe some of this is to pay for grandkid's education. Or maybe he'll donate most of it to The Watchtower.
Who knows.

I tell my wife, and others, that we may never know what and how much the "accomplished of the world" donate to others. They often don't publicize it. It may be none of our business.

If George can get those posted prices, good for him.I remember back in the 70's when he started to sing ,guys saying he was selling out in his crossover to R&B.Smartest thing he ever did.Guys like him and Larry Carlton in their commercial ventures were able to make a good living and still be jazzer's in their heart. I'd rather be like them than the guys who need gofundme help in their old age.

Benson was recording as a singer long before he made a name as a guitarist.
-
He is liquidating his assets. Guitars that he needed for his guitar-playing business are no longer required and so are converted into cash. Fortunately, they have much additional value, because of their association with him; unlike most business assets, they do not need to be written off when they become redundant, but will add value to the business when they are sold.

Benson has been well known for gifting guitars to friends and other players. He makes mention in the video about some of them being really valuable now- I wonder if he gave away the sunburst Les Paul he started with?
I'm sure Benson has given plenty to charity over his lifetime, and who knows, maybe he is donating the proceeds here.
In any case, Benson has been a lifetime's worth of inspiration for me and many others, and fully deserves whatever he has earned.
And as regards his singing, if I could sing like him I would have been doing it a lifetime ago! I don't begrudge him wanting more out of his life, desiring to provide for his family, and going out and getting it. Not everyone is required to spend a lifetime in jazz clubs for little pay. In fact I myself made that decision early on.
I'm pretty sure Benson came from a poor background, and above all wanted to be freed from that. More power to him!
