Pat Martino & Jaco inspired - outside playing technique w/ Skjold bass, Gibson Kessel, Mutron III


While the title says Envelope Filter, i wasn't completely happy with the fractal envelope filter for nailing the Pat Martino, Joyous Lake sound and instead I still prefer the block triggered fas or clyde wah for this type of sound. I'm using fractal's fas wah for this demo.


I'm also utilizing various outside techniques of side stepping, playing up or down a half step from the key (E7 funk jam) and forward motion pentatonics up and down the neck.

I'm using a skjold bass for the backing track (both the bass part and the chords are played on it). It's a fabulous bass. Definitely the best bass I've ever owned and you know me, I've owned a ton of boutique instruments!
