While it's a Pat Metheny signature model, I think one could catch a pretty good Barney Kessel vibe with one of these.

I'd also like to see it pushing a tube amp to see if you can get some Charlie Christian out of it. While I'm dreaming, a video of Bruce Foreman playing one and comparing it to Barney's guitar.
-
Watching videos on the new Pat Metheny and its single coil pickups lead me to videos of the D'Angelico Excel Style B with its Dearmond pickup.
Both guitars sound great in the videos.
Maybe a Dearmond pickup would be good for my acoustic Campellone.

The floaters have a bit more of an "acoustic sound" to them, it seems? I know we've had discussions here before about mounted vs floating pickup tonal differences.
That being said- I agree with you- the 2 guitars sound very similar. I think the D'Angelico is a 17" tho, the Ibanez is a 16" (15-3/4" I think?) More comfortable for me.

Weird because 628mm is 24.75" and 24.7" is nonstandard.

Yeah, it's just a typo or oversight. Something I noticed, it's a habit now that my office is having us peer review reports.

It sure seems like tim enjoys playing the ibanez in the second video. Looks like he was really liking it.

Last thing I need is another guitar, but it would be nice to add an archtop with a single coil.

I'm just imagining how much nicer the PM3C would look with a pickguard....

So an aside from the pickup on this model. I recently played an Ibanez Pat Metheny Blonde std model. Wow, what a skinny neck!
How do you all deal with such a slim neck?
It felt like a child’s hand was the shape they had in mind?
-
It didn't seem much different than an Epiphone neck to me. Are you a baseball bat guy? I can't understand how anyone can play those necks.
-
Once I met Pat and got to shake his hand. It was pretty small, and he's not a big guy (about 5'8" or less, I'd guess). My hand is even smaller, and I demand slim necks (but not narrow - that's a separate matter). Pat's a thumb wrapper, so extra neck thickness is just an obstacle.
-
Yeah, skinny neck. But over the course of a 3hr gig, no stress. I was quite surprised. I may have become a convert…

A new video with finger picking. Could not get the video to attach/embed

Wow that Manzer sounded an awful lot like a Barney Kessel tone to me. Dark and floaty. Love it!
-
Yesterday at a concert in Utrecht (the Netherlands) I saw Pat using presumably a black PM3C, just like mine!?

I don't know if this has been posted already, if so, my apologies: [edit: sorry, I see it was]
Pretty nice demonstration of some ofa tone you can get out of this guitar.Last edited by Cunamara; Yesterday at 02:27 PM.
