My guess is that the archtop guitar market under $2000 is much healthier than the $10K and above archtop market is.

Lots of guitar players want an archtop in their stable, but not as their main guitar and they don't want to pay more than they paid for a solid body.

It's a nice niche that Ibanez can operate in at a profit with their Indonesian and other Asian factories.

    Just a guess.

So, the natural sounds every bit as good as the black. Who would have thunk it. All kidding aside, that sounded excellent.

That Tim Lerch video is very nice.

I've been playing guitar with a jazz flavored group lately and my P-90 Les Paul seems to be fitting in best with this group.

So now I'm really interested in the Charlie Christian pickup on this thing.

Maybe after the Christmas bills are all paid off next year I may think about one. My wife likes the black.

BTW I love the sound and size on this new PM3C. The notes on the first string at the high positions are soooo sweet.

Nothing wrong with the pickup in Tim's clip; sounds nice and clear with depth to it. He's playing pretty laid back here and I'd be interested to hear how the notes pop out when digging in a bit more. I was also impressed by the acoustic tone and projection (with the roundwounds he put on).

agreed, Tim made that instrument sing. goes to show yet again that the tone's in the fingers, eh?

"jazzloverfat" - is that a Philip K. Dick reference?

Um, let's see, what was the name of that book, Horselover Fat was a character in it.... VALIS

Tim definitely indicates that it is not an endorsement .
    Beautiful demonstration .
Reminded me of Jim Hall's famous live rendition :

The guitar does seem to have a thin bright nature, BUT the single notes sound great and seem to nail the Matheny vibe very well. Tim is a top notch player and it can't get much better than what you hear.

Well, it's a single coil so that's the nature of the beast. Play it through a Fender tweed Deluxe and you'll get a warm fat tone.

Yes. It is quite easy to add beef to a clear, "thin" sounding single coil pickup. Turn down volume pot a bit, turn down tone pot as much as you need, turn down the treble on your amp, add an analog delay pedal set at 20ms.

Much easier to fatten up a single coil than to "clarify" a woofy neck humbucker on a hollowbody guitar.

The sound of a pickup does not exist in isolation. Tone is a product of the pickup, type of strings, amp, volume being used, size of room being played in, crowd noise in room, the touch of the player, construction of the guitar, etc.

There are some shitty pickups that can ruin your tone no matter what, but this guitar does not have a shitty pickup.

Speaking of CC archtop pickups: is there any brand/maker that does a "noiseless" version? I know, I know, not for the purists. I once had an archtop with a p90 and I replaced it with a Fralin noiseless p90 which sounded really great and solved my problem I had then (playing in orchestra pits and noisy stages).

A new video! Ok, this may very well be the poorest excuse for a guitar demo ever. Its actually kind of funny.

The demo guitar is also using a tuneomatic metal bridge. I wonder how it would sound with a rosewood or ebony bridge?
