I know; I recently got a great deal on a Les Paul Modern Lite. But, as Howard Cosell once put it, “for reasons too complex to bring before you here,” it feels like a long month only two days in.

These reasons led me to tick an item off my bucket list after work today, in the form of a 1939 Gibson L75. This is a gorgeous instrument in virtually new condition. I love the sound and feel; it’s incredibly resonant, and has a nicely radiused fretboard and medium V neck.

For the moment, it wears .012 to .053, I believe D’Adarrio phosphor bronze. Eventually, I will get a set of Chromes in .013-.056, the same as I have on my L50.

A clip of my initial improvisation with it, below. I broke out of 4/4 pattern in spots or I would have put this in the Summer of Rhythm thread:

    How cool is this!?

Still rhythm guitar, would totally be welcome on the other thread too...

Also, I know this is a somewhat dimly lit video, but that guitar looks like it is in impeccable shape!

Jeff, it is in unbelievably great condition. Even the original case, though worn a bit, is stellar (it’s also very heavy. I wonder if it’s a vintage Lifton).

Here’s the listing from RetroFret, with some good photos and info:
