What guitar/amp do you play?

So you have 12 guitars and 8 amps? And you have some stuff to sell thinking you are going to downsize? Here is how it works (and I speak from experience), You will sell some gear and free up space and have some spare cash. In short order, you will purchase more gear. And have less cash. Rinse, wash, repeat. Enjoy the ride. He who dies with the most toys wins.

Well, I bought alot of this stuff "searching for something". And for the most part, I've found what I was looking for. So while there are a couple more things I'd like to try, I've gotten alot of it out of the way (discovered, in person, that's "it's not for me"). I'm not saying I'll never buy anything again, but I really am looking for an "end game"... as fun as it's been experiencing all this stuff, I know I don't need it, and will end up with far less one day. Of course there will always be the odd piece of new gear I'll want to try, but I will have gotten most of it out of the way.

Besides, I really don't have the room for all the crap I own now, the collection MUST shrink!

I use a Jazzmaster into a Twin exclusively for pretty much everything. I’ve been intrigued reading the mids at 10 with bass and treble turned right down settings tips for twins on this forum, I’ll have to give it a bash. Best approximation of jazz tone I have is rhythm circuit with the tone rolled down a good bit, through my Oceans 11 reverb(spring setting), or the onboard reverb set to around 2.

It's not like that in Chicago. You need a license and then there are just a few designated spots to compete over and long story short, my buddies jumped through all the hoops and made $13 in 3 hours. Better to just get a job at Starbucks.

main guitar is a 1999 brad nickerson virtuoso...other guitars are a 1976 guild artist award (for sale), a 335, EJ strat and a custom build like a gretsch jet. amps are a dr z carmen ghia, victoria 35210 and a victoria vicky verb (below). for the ghia and 35210, i'll sometimes use a boss digital reverb and/or strymon deco.

I guess the natural evolution to the next question is about the number of guitars compared to the number of amps. I may be one extreme using a single guitar and six amps.

Blond 40th anniversary with special Eminence speakers and 6L6 tubes made with the original GE factory equipment, unaltered
Black reissue altered to derated to 40W by removing two power tubes
Black reissue altered to derated to 20W by using low gain preamp tubes, reverb return attenuated with low gain tube

Two Super Reverb
Black reissue bone stock
Real 1965 bare finished pine

One Deluxe Reverb
Black reissue altered only by disconnecting the bright switch cap

- this provides a range of power for various venues, indoor/outdoor
- I keep a set of absolutely perfect preamp tubes in the Deluxe so that when I hear an issue in any of the others I have a known perfect set of tubes for tests. I have dozens of spare tubes and this is the easiest way to find perfect ones
- the derating of power provides tremendous clean headroom
- the derating of the reverb return provides much more fine control
- the derating in general really means that I may take a very heavy Twin Reverb to perform with power more like a Deluxe (one with massive overspec for the power supply, output transformer, speakers, etc...) I know, basically a 65lbs 20W amp

I also have a Princeton stashed at my Mom's place.

In my town you normally need a license as well -- for the pedestrian zone in the city center you even have to renew it daily. But no one ever asked me for a license in the pedestrian tunnel below the big road in front of my house. The tunnel is less than 50 meters from my home and usually I make 20 EUR in two hours. I play alone so I do not have to share anything. (The little 1W tube amp was 80 EUR used and had cost ca. 400 new AFAIK.)

EDIT: Some more thoughts:

Busking is also paid practice for me. I practice singing without a mic and I practice comping for myself. When busking I do mainly rock & blues ATM but I plan to do more GASB tunes, I have to figure out my keys for some tunes. Busking is also practice of performance in general because you try to attract the attention of people who are originally not at all interested in you and your music.

I recently purchased a new amp and I couldn’t be happier : it’s the „Falcon Grande“ by Tone King, a 20 watt all-tube amp in a 1x12“
cab. It has a 3-position mode switch with rhythm (>Blackface), Tweed and Lead settings, Hi and Low inputs and the VERY effective and great sounding „Ironman II“ attenuator. The Tweed setting is my favorite with the guitar plugged into the low input, it produces a wonderfully smooth, fat and „classic“ tone, regardless of whether I use my Tele, my Lam-top Trenier or my ES-345. Sounds a la Kenny Burrell are just as easily dialed in as the smooth „edge of breakup“ tones of Larry Carlton.
This amp is powerful enough for any „chamber-jazz“ setting but when more volume is needed nothing delivers as my BUD6, on larger stages coupled with an extension cab.
