OK... there have been years... when I've played non stop gigs, day, night... I remember almost any tune, I can't remember all the names of the tunes, but melody or changes etc... and can play or fake...

Improvization is first of all feeling of making choice right now for me. Somehow I just feel it or not. It is what it important for perceptions of it I guess.
Not exactly 'modern', but the tune 'Don't Give it Up' by Larry Carlton uses major triads a whole step apart in the head.
Funny how grain and tortoise PG's are like fingerprints. There's absolutely no doubt that those gits are one and the same.
