Small update: I changed the strings this morning to 11s with a wound G. Much better!

Also while changing the strings I noticed the G-string tuner was loose, so tightening the screws into the headstock might also have helped.

I will continue to work on cleaning up my technique, but the intonation now seems less sensitive to changes in fretting pressure, and to some extent, my sloppy positioning.

Bumping string gauge is a good one. If you're used to playing bass you might be comfortable going 12s even. Make sure the guitar is set up after - saddle height, truss rod tightened slightly to keep the neck straight, nut slots are not too tight. This might be better done by the luthier if you're not used to doing this yourself and have no special files for the slots.

Agree on the previous advice to press ON the frets instead of in-between.
