This whole thing is kind of dumb, so here’s an attempt at a redirect.
Spoiler: that thing you’re missing is rhythm.

So haven’t read all of the comments, but after gigging for 50 years here’s what I’ve learned.
Like anything the more you do it the better it gets. Time and Feel aren’t the same, but they are equally important. And there are different interpretations of both.
Learning repertoire is probably the most important thing along with the correct grooves.
There is no single correct way, but man when the time and groove aren’t happening it’s a HUGE DRAG!

I learned 40 years ago playing bass in a rock group from a really good solid drummer who did a lot of marching band type stuff. The two of us would sit and play Rush and Yes tracks over and over and work them out. No metronome but a lot of listening. Taught me that being in the moment is the important part of keeping a beat … we could play any song and made a lot of money playing gigs because we felt the music even if it wasn’t what we would have picked to play.
I don’t gig anymore but I still listen with the same ears and use that when I want to learn a song. It’s the pulse not the actual beats that matter, you have to be able to count and know where you are but feeling it is the real deal.
I know this differs a bit, and I do use iReal and band in a box these days, but just to keep my chops up. They can’t replace being in the moment even if that moment is just two kids (or maybe adults nowadays) sitting in a room listening to records over and over.
