Can anyone recommend more albums like Julie London’s Julie Is Her Name?

Guitar, Bass, and vocal combo that’s sparse and mellow.

Back in the day they called them "torch singers" (or so I was told-a bit before my time) also singers like Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, etc.

    Well, that's a start.

There is only one Julie London, and few albums of the period are so sparse.

Blossom Dearie plays piano on My Gentleman Friend (1961) with Kenny Burrell – guitar, Ray Brown – double bass, Ed Thigpen – drums (and Bobby Jaspar on flute for three tracks). Blossom Dearie Sings Comden and Green (1959) is another with Burrell, Brown and Thigpen.

Barney Kessel plays on Billie Holliday's Music for Torching and Velvet Mood, both recorded in the same two sessions in 1955 (with Harry "Sweets" Edison on trumpet, Benny Carter on alto and Jimmy Rowles on piano).

Sylvia Is! by Sylvia Syms (1965) has both Kenny Burrell and Bucky Pizzarelli.

Who else? Nancy Harrow, Marian Montgomery, Dinah Shore, perhaps.

Maybe this one with Rune Gustafsson and different singers?

Berverly Kenney with Johnny Smith. Hidden gem for you

And this nice album of Blossom Dearie with Herb Ellis. Listen how Herb is arranging this tune, pure beauty.

    Jim Hall and Jane Hall…

Not really the same, but Luciana Souza has 3 "Duos" records that feature just her voice and nylon string guitar, and they are outstanding.

I don't see mention of her album Vol.II of that title - Howard Roberts on guitar this time. There is a CD twofer with both albums:

There are two guitars and occasional delicate trumpet. But I think it fits what you requested perfectly 'combo that’s sparse and mellow'

To me the crucial point is 'no piano, no drums'

One of the greatest originals in Jazz vocals . . . Nancy Wilson was an incredible artist and a class act among Jazz performers. Here's one of her classics. I hope you enjoy.

The main request was sparse and mellow. Doesn’t have to be a lady singer, at this point it doesn’t even have to be a vocal recommendation as I’ve gotten so many good ones.

Thanks again for all the good recommendations

Just remembered I’ve got this CD by Georgia Mancio and Nigel Price which fits the bill:

I think you might enjoy Paul Desmond/Jim Hall "Glad To Be Unhappy".

It's alto instead of voice, and there's a quiet drummer, but other than that, it's guitar and bass. It's possible that Jim was influenced by Barney -- you can hear some of the same devices.

That Julie London album, btw, influenced the original bossa nova artists. Some have mentioned it in interviews. They passed a copy around and figured out Barney's voicings.
