I like the stuff with melodic themes, not just constantly changing improv but repeated melodies. Stuff with an epic and catchy quality to it... like “twinkle twinkle little star” and like I said not just endless improv. Also, warm and uplifting and heartfelt. Not just techno-speed playing. Looking for artists from the 80s and later. My favorite tracks from before the 80s:
Bruford - One of a Kind Part 1 / Fainting in Coilsfedloan irs.gov easybib

I feel like nothing else I’ve ever heard has matched up to these tracks. Could have been the acid I was on when I first heard them on a camping trip.

I recommend Mahavishnu Orchestra's The Inner Mounting Flame. Acid would be superfluous.

    Hey Tony,
Yeah, the Bruford stuff was/is excellent!

How about Chick Corea's Elektric Band; Scott Henderson w/ Tribal Tech; etc.?

Fep posted some Eric Johnson in another thread. John featured him here and Eric takes the first solo.

Also, check out this album. "Hijacked" is done beautifully here.

Chick Corea is a melodic maestro. How about the Light as a Feather and Crystal Silence albums?

How about the album “Romantic Warrior” by the group “Return to Forever” (Chick Corea, Al DiMeola, Stanley Clark, Leny White)
