Was that his sister? I'd imagine she'd be pretty lonely if he were in the same house practicing.

C'mon, say something nice about Ornette, even if it is just "nice jacket".

Well I often times refer to him as "Moronette" Coleman, if that helps.

Moody stuff? Think Miles and Bill Evans. Hubbard playing "Summertime" from the Artistry of Freddie Hubbard. McCoy Tyner on Coltrane's My Favorite Things.

I guess I have been ruined by my ipod's shuffle feature. I don't put on specific discs anymore. However, my favorite upbeat stuff is always Gypsy Jazz. If you aren't feeling uplifted after a few rounds with Birelli or the Rosenberg boys, you need to have someone check your pulse.

Miles Davis, Milestones (When I need to clear the head; remind myself why I love jazz.)

Buddy Emmons, Steel Guitar Jazz (Get's me thinking outside the box; reminds me to look for other paths.)

Keith Jarrett, The Melody At Night With You (What it means to go deep and to not take the ability to play your instrument and the people close to you for granted)

Chet Atkins, The Essential Chet Atkins: The Columbia Years (Take care of yourself, live right-there's a lot of guitar to be played in life.)

Lenny Breau, Guitar Sounds Of Lenny Breau (When I need to find, "true north")

And lastly, anything with Johnny Hodges out front You think you know how to play a melody? A ballad? Listen to Johnny if you need a bit of a primer or some inspiration -no matter what instrument you play.

I while back I was listening to Pandora and they snuck in some Buddy Emmons on me. Years ago when I listened to a bit more country kind of stuff, Buddy was one of my favorites. I had quite forgotten about him and had to go dig out the vinyl (along with with the turntable) to take a new listen. What a great sense he had for the steel guitar!

I didn't have Steel Guitar Jazz, I will have to see if I can find a copy.

Of all the feelings and perceptions I don't think there is anything as cool as the muscian/guitarist who plays the mechanics. I guess thats why so many souls spend every last minute of life doing it and listening to it.
