The world is too dark a place to take on this crap attitude. And I generally have been a possessor of crap attitudes my whole life so if anything I am biased in your favor and I still don't agree with you.

At least do some jumping jacks in rhythm to a song.

I’m a terrible dancer but you have to put rhythm in your body. Tap it out, walk a pulse and speak it out loud, tap feet and clap the rhythm. Whatever.

If you're mad at rhythm you clearly haven't spent enough time learning Freddie Green style guitar.

    I feel a Haiku...

    I'm mad at rhythm-fall-jpg

The cutting word is "dancing" as in "cut a rug"
The seasonal reference is homonymic Fall

It's not an attitude, I innately don't like it lol. Although my Dad said this song was my jam as a tot in the late 80s and I would dance to it. I have no recollection of that.

I don't like people either. :P I'm not chasing them, they instigate with me. This latest one, Shania, has been initiating with me for over a year despite me acting in a way during that period which would deter any woman 10 times over.

Although having fun with a woman is the only reason I'd dance. I'd never be at home and think 'I just wanna dance,' or want to go somewhere specifically to dance.

Rhythm is my biggest weakness. I'm best at harmony, pretty good at melody, not as good with rhythm. I'm actually ok with single note stuff and can overcome my rhythmic weakness. Was a good bassist, am good with playing single note melody stuff. It's when there are several notes at a time that require good rhythm in relation to each other and to the time. That's why organ wasn't my thing, it's all that. I think I would really take to vibraphone where it's customary to use single note but you can play some harmony too. However piano is my best instrument and I wouldn't want to ditch the harmony on it. The rhythm holds me back on it is all. I can feel it in my system that I can conceive what to do but my hands won't work. I'm digging the polyrhythmic feel tidbit of wisdom, that made me less mad at rhythm.

So... not piling on, but... a personal story that might offer perspective:

As a kid, I struggled with math. When I graduated from US elementary school*, my teachers recommended me for the honors math program in high school. This was a shock to me, given my struggles, but I figured "what the hell, give it a try - you can always go back to the regular classes if it doesn't work out."

My high school honors math teacher was far and away a better math teacher than I had ever had. He could abstract - explain WHY you "carry the two" and so forth. Very quickly, I got GOOD at math, became an A student, and found myself LIKING math. I wound up taking Calculus in high school and testing out of the math requirement in college.

So... maybe you hate dancing because you've never learned how to dance, or never had a good dance teacher.
Learning to dance could improve both your musicianship and your social life. There is literally no easier way to meet women.

Just a thought. You don't have to like it or do it :-)

*Roughly age 6-13; student body and classwork groupings vary by country and school system

You can be mad at dancing, but don't be mad at rhythm. It didn't do anything to you.

^ I became un-mad at rhythm. The polyrhythmic feel was the ticket.

Feeling Peter's advice of putting the metronome on every beat. That's feeling the best to me for tightening up the time feel. Putting the metronome on 2 and 4, or drum genius, or backing tracks, or playing along still allow you mess up the time a little bit. Having the nazi click on every beat and nothing else really straightens out your time. I've never done this before, it's helping.

    Still mad at rhythm. :P

get off the pot and get the vibes :)

on the nome: turn the f'n thing down to about 60 or 80 to find out how much you really suck. Work on subdivision at that kind of tempo for a year or two and you won't be mad at rhythm any more.

You might even be able to dance!
