Any recommendations? Just looking for straight ahead jazz - even a dump is ok if the music is good.

We tried online searches, but came up with a lot of hybrid forms that might be ok but don't seem like what we're looking for.

We're staying near the Palais des Congrès, so something nearby would be great!

I was there last year and was unsuccessful. There was a blues jazz spot that was popular. I don't remember the name. I have a couple of jazz buddy\ies who liove there but they didn't reply.

Glad to see Le Caveau de la Huchette still seems to be going strong (was there 40+ years ago!)

I don't remember the location of le Palais des Congrès but the Paris metro is/was pretty good and runs until late.

Are you there right now or going soon?

Le Duc des Lombards and Sunrise/Sunset are the big clubs in Paris and regular stops on the touring circuit for American musicians as well as the best of the European scene.

Paris jazz guitarists Clément Trimouille and Katia Schiavone are two great straight ahead players working a lot around the city. Anywhere they are playing will be worth checking out.

Was also there several years ago and had a blast. I remember going downstairs literally into a cave. Great vibe and good night of music.

Thanks to all for the pointers. We're in Paris through Tuesday. Unfortunately, Clément Trimouille and Katia Schiavone don't have dates until after we leave, but we may check out Le Ducs, Sunset Sunside or Riv3 on Saturday. We hope to return next year so we'll have a look at the neighborhood near the Hotel de Ville and Saint Paul stations, just a short hop for us on the 1 metro line.

Le Piano Vache in the Latin Quartier has jazz on Monday nights. Caught Adrian Moingard trio a few years ago. Like sitting in someones living room.

A site that lists daily concerts ( including jazz) around the city. Google translate the site if your French is rusty.

Clément Trimouille is playing tonight (Friday) at Quartier Rouge with some great musicians. Bit of a jam session too.

Here in continental western Europe there are periods of the year where there might be nothing close enough to any specific style you're looking for, even in Paris. But judging from the few jazz musicians I follow Paris is the only place in France that has jazz clubs.

2 manouche jazz events by the Leviathan Gipsy Band:
Tomorrow 5/10, 19:30 in Le Ravitailleur (12e arr.)

Sat. 12/10, 20:30 at Le Mélangeur (Cergy):

Another place just outside of Paris that has regular manouche jazz evenings is La Vache à Lunettes in St. Denis (the city where the old kinds were crowned and buried):

There is a nice little jazz club in the Marais, not far from our apartment in Paris called 38Riv. Jam session every night after a couple of sets.

It's at the corner of Rue de Rivoli and Rue Vieille du Temple, not far from the Hôtel de Ville Metro station (take the 1 train at Pont de Neuilly); just east of the BHV.

Yes, Club 38Riv. Very casual, very small, very local. Inexpensive, too. Went a couple of nights earlier this year just because it was nearby. You may not see any superstars but it is a cool scene.

Regardless of the music venue, you’re in Paris. Enjoy it, and feel privileged for not everyone can go there.
