From what I can tell it was a messy hurricane but seems that the big hit was not direct on a large metropolitan area. That said the damage seems to be overwhelming. Hope all are safe and maybe some reports I know a lot of the forum guys are in Florida.

Has anyone heard from Chuck (That Rhythm Man). Greenville, SC got hammered.

It tore the gulf beaches up real bad. My sister and her daughter had to swim to safety at 11pm. Not sure why she decided to stay. She can be kinda dumb.
Anyways, I know several St. Pete Beach residents who got tore up, her included. I think they pulled five bodies off Treasure Island, which is the next island north of there. My parents are also there but my pop has the high spot on the island and only got about an inch in the garage.
I have watched some drone footage. Wish I was there right now with my old hot rod Yamaha blaster. I would be the Lord of the Dunes and the cops would hate me but not be able to catch me. I always loved it after a storm. I could get work anywhere just walking up and saying "hi" with a shovel and a chainsaw in my hand.
This is definitely gonna change things out there though.

I iexted Thatrhymman ( Chuck ) and they seem to get power back on pretty decent he is in SC Greenville and said it was a mess at the hospital but they were making a go of it.
The next hit is this Milton, and my guess is everyone will hopefully be super cautious and get out or to high ground. Take the family and be safe first. Most things can be replaced but we guitarist probably are figuring ways to keep the L5's and Super 400 safe. They mean nothing compared to being safe and family ok. However, if possible, we can pack them too. No?

And to have Milton barreling down on Florida just two weeks later is mind-boggling. Best wishes to all of our Florida and southeastern US members and hope you and your families are well!

I'm in Bradenton - we lost power for 10 hours on the last one and had a little yard trash. I think Milton will be worse but I'm about 6 miles inland and on pretty much high ground so I think wind will be our only problem. Fortunately, we'll be getting wind from the south and there's a 6 story condo across the street south of me that will help deflect it - I doubt I'll see much higher than 70 or 80 mph but we've survived worse. The worst will be on our barrier island (Anna Maria) with cities of Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach. The storm a couple weeks ago destroyed Bradenton Beach 90-95% and they've just been digging out. 12-15 ft storm surge over an island with an elevation of 2 ft is brutal - they have force evacuation by tomorrow morning. Also, south of Anna Maria is Longboat Key with lots of very high $$$ multi story condos and they stand to take the brunt of it along with Sarasota, Lido Key, and Siesta Key. Hopefully, some shear will weaken it to a Cat3 before landfall but it'll still be a mess.
If I still have power, I'll post an update sometime tomorrow evening.

Skip, please post any updates you can. Be safe down there brother.

My old friend on Paradise Island (just behind Treasure Island) is OK but is staying put. In a one story house. Very worried about her. Doesn't seem like the best plan to me. Maybe things look different there than they do from here in Minnesota, I wouldn't know, but I'm pretty sure I'd be getting the hell out of Dodge. She has a go bag packed, but the decision to go might come far too late since she has to cross a causeway to get off the island.
Good luck down there, folks!

I know some other people who are staying on the beach. It's a death wish. I do not expect them to live. They are gonna shut off all water and power before it gets there so I hope she has plenty of garbage bags to shit in and jugs/bottles of water. There is no such thing as an escape plan once it hits.....I-275 and US19 are clear now but I don't know the fuel situation. A buddy of mine went north to Bell and said there was plenty of fuel once you were away from the thoroughfares so she still has time to get out. DeSantis brought in extra gas I am told but I did hear St. Pete was low on gas and diesel now that most have left. My gut tells me this is the Katrina level event for FL....

***UPDATE** Wednesday morning 2:00 am
Pretty quiet with some rain - got everything tied down and waiting. Heavier rain tomorrow and wind will start picking up late morning. Worst will be midnight until daylight Thursday am - it'll be a rough ride with gusts close to 100mph depending on location - there's a wiggle in the track and they're not sure where it'll hit - could be St Pete/Tampa or as far south as Venice. Location depends on whether it'll surge water in to Tampa Bay or blow it out. We're on high ground so water (other than rain) won't be an issue but the wind will be bad along with 12-15 ft storm surge - we have a 6 story condo across the street south of us that should help break up some of the wind (fingers crossed).
More tomorrow if I have power

We lost power when the back eyewall of the storm hit us about 10:30 Wednesday evening and just got power back about 2-1/2 hrs ago - 8:15 PM EST; been a miserable few days. This was the first direct hit in 103 years - eye went over our area. Highest winds were 100+mph. Lots of roads blocked, power lines down, roofs missing, etc. Our one yr old roof had no damage and screen porch held up fine. Lots of trash from a couple oaks in the yard (more to pick up tomorrow) and large carrotwood tree in small backyard split in 3 pieces - 2 missed us and the third got my neighbor's wood fence. I had three wood fence panels go down and will not put them back - I'll give them to my neighbor to replace the damage my tree did. Overall we made it fairly well - neighbor on one side had to keep generator running to protect a couple hundred pounds of seafood in his freezer and he had an extra 20 amp circuit so I was able to run my 100 ft extension cord from there and run fans and charge phones and tablets. No wi-fi, internet, etc, and couldn't get to a lot of books on my Kindle Unlimited. It took the A/C about 2 hrs to go from 84F down to 76F so at least we can sleep. Fridge should be ready tomorrow and we can go to grocery store and replace all we had to toss.
I've ordered a Jackery power bank with the new batteries that will recharge 4000 times plus it comes with a solar panel - it'll charge from the car, wall, generator, or solar. I intend to get a small generator just to charge the Jackery as needed. It has enough juice to power the fridge for a couple days. I don't plan on being captured unprepared again - I've been here since 1963 and seen a lot of storm as well as some monsoons in Vietnam but this was by far the worst.
The islands did not get the huge surge that was expected and I believe are opening back up tomorrow. Beach not accessible until the metal detect the sand and water to find any errant pieces of metal.
That's about it - now to go sleep in the cool!
