Question for notation experts

Does anyone know how to notate, or what the symbol or word is for sustaining a chord on a stringed instrument? The pick lightly, but very briskly brushes the strings up and down, so you get the impression of a sustained chord, or even single note. It's not used in modern jazz much, but you hear it in gypsy players and folk music.
