    I am not familiar with the Mel Bay books but highly recommend the Levitt Modern Method books. Excellent.

    Oh I hate that. 'Here are all the most most complex and least musical rhythms I could think of, and I've stuck them on the one page, without any coherence, for you bang your head against.'

    I'm a Leavitt fan myself, but would agree it's heavy going. The Oakes book is good for just reading.
