    Yes I noticed the misalignment but there is also another problem.
    The TAB underneath says 3rd fret at the B string, which is D. How can you still play E at the 5th fret? Should it have been 7th fret on the G string, with a certain stretch of the left hand?

    Also, the example of B played open at the second string is not consistent with E at the 5th fret.

    That’s unfortunately a common trait in Mel Bay books. Besides the errors already mentioned, there are often chords with impossible stretches and notes inexplicably jumping way out of position within a phrase.
