How does the performance space sound? If the acoustics are good, a good microphone and guitar with a clever use of rests/silence may be all you need. Maybe add a little delay. The sound of the cello isn’t really “cavernous” and “clean” as it is “punchy” and “gritty”. It’s a heavy serious tone. Adding on reverb might lessen the “weight” of the tone/sound. This is only my opinion though.
“Kol Nidri” would sound great played on a nice metal bodied tricone resophonic guitar. The sounds needed fit one perfectly.
