    With my 1970 Super400
the Super400 of this time still had a nice cherry red color, not a teaburst one

    Hi Emil,
It's commonly known that embossed covers were only made in '72.
But it really doesn't change anything about your guitar except date it more accurately as Gibson serial numbers are a little sketchy from this era

    • Gibson Serial Numbers, early to mid 1970's.
      • All models, stamped in back top of headstock. "MADE IN U.S.A." stamped below the serial number in back top of peghead, in the same size type, and on two lines with "U.S.A." below the "MADE IN":Number Year
        ------ ----
        6 digits + A 1970
        000000's 1973
        100000's 1970-1975
        200000's 1973-1975
        300000's 1974-1975
        400000's 1974-1975
        500000's 1974-1975
        600000's 1970-1972, 1974-1975
        700000's 1970-1972
        800000's 1973-1975
        900000's 1970-1972
        A + 6 digits 1973-1975
        B + 6 digits 1974-1975
        C + 6 digits 1974-1975
        D + 6 digits 1974-1975
        E + 6 digits 1974-1975
        F + 6 digits 1974-1975

    Hello Wintermoon

For the Gibson covers ,I found on the web someone saying "

the most story I've accumulated so far is the large HB nickle and gold embossed covers were introduced in 1971.But due to lack luster customer response, complaints from different Gibson repair centers over interchangeability issues, they were discontinued in 1972"

For PU covers with the Gibson logo, I found in the book of AR Duchossoir(1983)"Guitar Identification"

In late 1970,it was decided to emboss the "GIBSON" logo on the pickup covers.
By the end of May,1972,this feature was officially discontinued, but it is most likely to be found on guitars released up to early 1973

As I can see the 600000's digits are from 1970-1972 On my Super 400,the number is is 622419 and the Gibson logo is emboss on the pu covers

So,I think my Super400 was made somewhere between late 70 and May 1972

    cheers
