Taking a cue from Bill Frisell....rather then learn a bunch of tunes it's good to learn a few tunes really well. So I've been working on these for many, many, many months even spanning a year. Occasionally a new tune will get under my skin for a few days but I keep coming back to these:

    In a Sentimental Mood
    Nuages
    Stella

Thanks to the post above I just started on Goodbye Porkpie Hat because I love the tune so much. Lately I've been trying to come up with my own arrangement based on MELODY first and then supporting with 3rds and 7ths and root notes. It's a sparser sound but very gratifying to come up with your own arrangement. It's the journey right?

A search on this site turned up a nice chart for GPH that I've been using:

One of my favorite ballads. First heard it many years ago while watching Woody Allen's Radio Days. So many great tunes in that movie!

"Over the Rainbow" has the distinct advantage (or disadvantage) that all your friends and family members recognize it.

Can you share what type of recording set-up your are using? That mic captures the Waterloo sound very nicely.
I own a WL-14 ladder t bar and find it great for chord melody

    Thanks

Glad to hear you're liking your WL-14! I've been using a Sony HDR-MV1 camera for all my video clips. I edit the color and framing in iMovie and post to youtube. I don't have to mess with the audio at all, as it seems to do a nice job representing the instrument recorded from about 2 feet away.
