Speaking of Watermelon, this is the band that does a lot of straight eighths and sort of funk stuff and we have a thing where we want to do a set that is the entire Headhunters album one day

A classic. Also a crowd pleaser, and the little piano riff is super easy on guitar. A little tougher to get the melody with it if you’re doing that, but if a horn is playing the melody it’s a snap.

It is easy if you have a bass player. I once learned it together with the bassline on guitar which is trickier.

Ted Ludwig and Paul Asbell do a nice duo guitar of “Cantaloupe Island” in this video, Gotta love the tone coming out of the Megas.

And Nate Lopez solo on “CI”. There might be some ideas in these two videos to inspire you. “Cantaloupe Island” is a fantastic tune. “Cantaloupe Island”, “All Blues”, “Round Midnight”, and “Take Five” are all tunes that can heavily influence the mood of a set being open to different grooves, solos, and jams.
