I asked him what kind of guitar he was playing these days. His response was . . "it's an old Gibson semi hollow . . 335 I think." I asked him if it was all original. His response was . . "How would I know that?" I asked him how he liked it. His response was . . "I like it just fine. It does everything I need it to do and it stays in tune. What more do I need?"
There's a lesson in there somewhere.

I THINK that's all of them...
The tele has been with me the longest, out of the electrics. The Almansa was the guitar I bought to get myself back into playing. All of my electrics are strung with flatwounds, even the ones I play rock/pop/blues on.
If I had to pare down to one electric - the Godin SD. It has the most useful range of tones, it's quiet, it has a trem (I like playing surf.)
I think I've learned that I generally like 24.75" scale lengths best, though I'm fine with the longer scale on my acoustic, the tele and the 7-string.
I do like having a humbucker equipped guitar around. Whenever I've gone to just single coils, I feel like I'm missing out.Last edited by GodinFan; 03-23-2014 at 04:54 PM. Reason: sold a guitar!

Strangely enough, the only guitar that's intrigued me of all the lot is the one with no name; I thought about buying it, even called the original luthier. I'm sure it's long gone by now.

I got the acoustic arch top I was looking for, completing my small cache of guitars (carved electric arch top, laminate arch top, acoustic arch top, semi-hollow, Tele, 7 string arch top).
At some point, I will feel a need to purge my small collection down to about 2 guitars, though. The L5 and the Solomon are keepers.

For most of the '80's and '90's I had exactly 55 guitars. The
number was determined quite scientifically by seeing how many cases I
could reasonable fit into the room we had dedicated for this purpose.
To make this happen, a fair number of them had to be semi or solid
body.
Although the number was fixed, many of the guitars were changed quite
frequently. Over the period in question, the balance went from an
eclectic mix of mostly vintage instruments to mostly recent Gibsons.
At the end of the century we moved and I sold many of the guitars.
There's nothing like having to pack and ship a bunch of guitars to disabuse
one of the urge to collect. Well, almost.

Solomon seems like the builder to bridge the gap between archtops and flattops. It seems as though you got exactly what you were looking for. Originally Posted by NSJ
One thing that concerns me about Solomon guitars is their tailpiece design. It appears as though the string extends from the tuners all the way to the end pin. Which strings do you use? Are there strings that just aren't long enough to bridge the distance?

If I had the common sense to hang on to the most valuable ones , I could probably retire comfortably. But I usually only had 1-3 guitars at a time over 45 years of playing guitar. And was and still am primarily interested in guitars from a players , not collector's perspective. DUMB ME!
