Whisper Not, written by Benny Golson in 1956, is one of those tunes where the melody immediately feels good under your fingers. It\u2019s logical, sits well on the guitar, and flows naturally, which makes it fun to play.<\/p>\n

Benny Golson played tenor saxophone and was a key composer during the hard bop era. He wrote many well-known jazz standards that are still widely played today, such as I Remember Clifford<\/em>, Stablemates<\/em>, Along Came Betty<\/em>, and Killer Joe<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In this guitar lesson, you\u2019ll learn how to play the melody of Whisper Not<\/em>, a song closely linked to Golson throughout his career.<\/p>\n

I wrote it in Boston at George Wein’s Storyville club when I was with Dizzy Gillespie’s big band. I wrote that tune in 20 minutes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
