Scott Henderson: Dolemite

Scott Henderson Sheet Music (Guitar Tabs)

Here's the sheet music with guitar tabs for the theme of 'Dolemite', written by Scott Henderson and recorded on the album Tore Down House.

Scott Henderson, born in 1954, was originally influenced by rock guitarists like Jimmy Page and Jimy Hendrix, but also by blues greats like Albert King and Buddy Guy. In 1980 he started studying guitar with Joe Diorio at the Guitar Institute of Technology, where he later became a teacher himself.

In 1984 Scott Henderson formed a band called Tribal Tech, together with bass player Gary Willis. In 1985 he started touring and recording with Chick Corea's Elektric Band. He also played with violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and Joe Zawinul.

In 1994 Scott Henderson made a transition from jazz to more blues orientated music when he recorded the album Dog Party. This album was voted best blues album in Guitar Player.

The guitar tabs:

The structure of Dolemite is that of a 12 bar blues with a little variation in the 9th measure, but the theme itself is more surprising. Scott uses a lot of hammers and pulls, which I indicated with a slur. B and RB in bar 10 stands for bend and release bend. Common bends are notated with an upgoing arrow.

Listen to the Sibelius file (if you've got a version of Sibelius), but obviously it doesn't swing as much as Scott's version.
