Default At Last chord progression

So... I was playing the chords to At Last and... a question popped into my head.

I am hoping someone here an give me an answer... if there is one.

The progression is G/Em/Am/Eb dom/D dom. That Eb dominant. How is that explained in the key of G? How is it reconciled theoretically? Or is this one of those, "It sounds good and that is the only explanation" things.

Thanks!

Chromatic approaches are always effective as long as the melody fits.

I gotcha. A bit of rule and a bit of feel.

I will keep that in my back pocket. Thanks!
