A lot of jazz composers and arrangers studied with Schillinger in the 1930s, Gershwin, Levant, Goodman and Miller among others. I have both books and drag them out periodically but it's not something to dabble in. I have a jazz guitarist friend in Chicago who studied the method and said that it was good for arranging and composition but didn't help his jazz playing at all. |
