I have Vol.1 of the Schillinger system...paid about $40.....way way back.
Heres a look inside.

Chapters on:
Interferences of Periodicities.
Techniques of Fractioning
Homogeneous Simultaneity and Continuity(Variations)
Distributive Powers
Rhythms of Variable Velocities

Those are some of the chapters from Book 1-Theory of Rhythm.
Vol.1 has 7 books.
1.Theory of Rhythm
2.Theory of Pitch Scales
3.Variations of Music by means of Goemetrical Projection.
4.Theory of Melody
5.Special Theory of Harmony
6.Correlation of Harmony and Melody
7.Theory of Conterpointe

and only 878 pages..and then onto Vol. 2
Are you into math, physics...good luck.

Greg

Here's a couple of links to wikipedia articles:

Joseph Schillinger
Joseph Schillinger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schillinger System
Schillinger System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are enough links in the articles to lead you to more information online.

A lot of jazz composers and arrangers studied with Schillinger in the 1930s, Gershwin, Levant, Goodman and Miller among others.

I have both books and drag them out periodically but it's not something to dabble in. I have a jazz guitarist friend in Chicago who studied the method and said that it was good for arranging and composition but didn't help his jazz playing at all.
