Default Slash chords with tensions in the bass

Hey all,

I was wondering if it's theoretically correct, given the context, to label a chord progression in this manner?

Say Cmaj7 - Em/Cshrp - Cmaj7 (rather than C shrp m7b5)

So basically a Em6 chord with the 6th in the bass.

Ty,

M

What's going before and after the Cma7? That will help decide what to call them

In this case, Em6 and C#m7b5 are enharmonic and ... how can I put it ... you'd play the same stuff over them ... 2 sharps, most likely ... so I'd say Em/C# is fine ... I like it when the bass notes are suggested ... but that may ... annoy ... others.

Sometimes using slash chord names can be effective to steer a player to an intended voicing in a chord sequence.
