| | For $8... it's pretty hard to go wrong, and the book looks fairly organized...I haven't bought the book... ( I'm a pro and the books for beginners)... But just a simple ?... What are the main characteristics, in your opinion, of... as you said... Jazz harmony. I'm always curious of what teachers believe Jazz Harmony to be. Sorry... I am trying to put you on the spot... anyone who decides to make $ from teaching something should have a understanding of the subject... right.
When did you grad. from Berklee... Thanks Reg |

| | Hi Reg, I graduated with a degree in performance/professional music in 1993. I teach Jazz and Theory at the Atlanta Institute of Music at the moment.
I will however, offer a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE to anyone who buys it.
Not that I think I'm by any stretch perfect or that my book is. Just that it's accurate, contains alot of good information and is certainly worth $8.
The reference to "Jazz Harmony" was in comparison to "Classical Harmony" and the things that go with it. (counterpoint rules, neapolitan chords, figured bass, no parallel fifths and octaves etc...)
Thanks for the interest!

| | I'm not referring to this 3 chapter preview....I'm referring to the 205pg book.
CHAPTER 1 – Understanding the Fretboard
CHAPTER 2 – Understanding the Major Scales
CHAPTER 3 – Intervals
CHAPTER 4 – Triads
CHAPTER 5 – Seventh Chords
CHAPTER 6 – The “CAGED” System
CHAPTER 7 – Minor Scales
CHAPTER 8 – Guide Tones
CHAPTER 9 – Tensions
CHAPTER 10 – Chord Progressions
CHAPTER 11 – Modes
CHAPTER 12 – Chord Scales
CHAPTER 13 – Blues Form
CHAPTER 14 – Drop Voicings
CHAPTER 15 – Quartal Voicings
CHAPTER 16 – Non-Traditional Voicings
CHAPTER 17 – Chord Borrowing
CHAPTER 18 – Chord Substitution
CHAPTER 19 – Implied Harmony
$8 seems fair. (Sure an expert may want to pass on it but is that not "alot of good information" for the price ?)
The preview is of course free.

| | Steve,
I like it. It is well organized and clear. I appreciate the emphasis on the fingerboard. Many topics addressed in the contents.
I would say it is easily worth the 8$.
One question or point of feedback.
Starting on page 40, you begin to show intervals at various locations.
I feel you should include all the string pairs. Specifically, you left out the A-D string pair.
I feel that is helpful to continue what you set in motion previously, essentially to eliminate fingerboard blind spots. |

| | Posted also in the other thread on this subject...
I took the plunge and invested (OK, so I'll never get rich with all this reckless spending,I know, I know...).
No regrets. Paypal was very easy, reply with link to file almost instantaneous (depends on time of day, perhaps...), and download no problem.
The 200 or so pages are quite dense, there's a lot of info. in there. Presentation/page layout agreable enough, with no fancy tricks to distract. I wouldn't dare say that there are no mistakes in there, either typos, tiny points of grammar or music theory blunders, but a rapid read-through shows a consistent, quality text; nice 'flow', no condescention or corny old jokes. The later chapters require a fair bit of attention (unless, of course, the subject is already mastered...), but one is brought up to there in a fairly coherent 'path'.
The explanations and examples are appropriate, and illustrate well the points being presented.
Altogether, I like it, and will doubtless consult quite regularly. I have many other publications, of all sorts, and class this one with the 'keepers'. I may even print it out for binding.
I found it well worth the 8$ I 'invested'.
Hope this helps...

| | Great work, Steve!! Your topics were presented in a highly accessible way. I'm impressed. I'm sure you'll revise and add lots of little things over time (it feels endless!), but you have a solid product already. I hope the best for you and your readers/students. |
