Default Just taken my grade four theory

Just thought i would mention that i have just taken my grade four music theory exam set by the London college of music,i have to wait twelve weeks for the results now.I would recommend studying music theory to anyone,it really has opened a lot of doors for me and given me possibilities that i would never have thought of without the theory, while i know some people will disagree with me about this it is definitely the way forward for me,horses for courses and all that.I am studying in association with the registry of guitar tutors and find the course to be fantastic,if anyone is interested in taking this route and wants to discuss it with me i would be glad to talk about my experience of it.Oh well on to grade five, better get my head into those books there is an essay to write in this grade and i have not written an essay since high school, maybe it will help if i take in an apple for the invigilator.

I am sure that you did well. Good for you. Anyone that disagree's about studying theory formally or informally, has a screw loose or is not a serious Musician. Good luck on your journey!!!

Yowzer..! Where will this boy stop..? Now that's dedication for you; hardly time to breath, and already eyes down for a full house..! Respect..!

Not counting your contributions here, then..?
(Just a suggestion, don't be offended, please... brush up on the punctuation, or marks could be lost... )

Congratulations, I always appreciate your comments here.

Just by curiosity, could you give us an example of the questions found in this grade four exam ?

Wow,thanks for the kind responses guys.Brwnhornet i agree.Dad i know my punctuation looks bad on here, that is because i am relatively new to computing and my typing is still quite slow and i get lazy sometimes. As for a full house, the exams go up to grade eight soi have still got a way to go.Skidoo, thanks for the kind words but i am definitely one of those people who can understand music theory in my head but finds it hard work when it comes to applying it on the instrument,i am in no way a natural musician,i have to work very hard to move forward, but i love the journey.Oily i looked at the ABRSM route but felt that it was geared more towards classical and orchestral music and so opted for this route,as i thought it was more relevant for an aspiring jazz musician.Guy i will dig out some of the past exam papers to post some sample questions. At this grade you have to cover scales and chords up to three sharps and flats. There is a section on rhythm and rhythm notation,a section on knowledge of popular music, and one on harmony and transposition. You are asked to compose a simple chord progression and some rhythms.Grade five moves on to more compound time signatures like9/8 time ouch. Also more modal work.I love it.
