| | The Future Of Jazz, And The Future Of Music Now And the future of harmonic-melodic theory, explainable in 15minutes, the whole of Occidental high music, low street musics, and everything else. Who knows this? Not George Russell. Not Berklee. Nobody in Vienna.
Did Coltrane know it? Perhaps, but he took it with him. Does Ornette know it? I believe his version is so twisted up, you will never be able to comprehend the utter simplicity of our adopted tonal organisational schema we call 'music'.
Do I know it? Oh, yes.
Is it worth knowing? I could take it to my grave, and I probably will, if no one wants to learn it at my RocketHub site: Project: Make Domina Catrina Lee's "Songs From The Breastbone Drum" Album Into A Real CD | RocketHub
Aint giving it away for free, but it is rather inexpensive considering its true worth. Dont believe me? Does not bother me. Anyone addressing any snide remarks will not be read by me following this posting, so why even bother?
Anyone else serious about life, and about deep music can find me at RocketHub, and we can talk there after you decide you want to do a fair trade, and not before =) |

But what she lacks in musicality, she more than makes up for in hype.
I gave the link a listen. I had to sit through a minute of posing with the guitar and to get to the minute of New Agey guitar music. It was competent, but nothing amazing - I've had students who've written more interesting stuff. And the articulation could have been much better. I'm sorry, but if you're going to convince me that you've unlocked some musical secret and expect me to fork over some bread, then it's going to take much, much, much, much more than that.
Sorry, but based on what I heard, you have a long way to go before you can even pretend to put yourself in the same category as Coltrane, Ornette, Russell, Berklee, or the rich musical history of Vienna, let alone above them.
Do you have a link to something that will impress me? I'm not even sure that link is listenable. Some of the other stuff I found on Youtube was better, but it still just sounded like run-of-the-mill New Age to me - nothing groundbreaking and even a few "iffy" spots to my ears.
I don't normally like to get this critical, but when someone pumps themselves up like that and can't back it up, it irks me. I think you should take some of that time you spend inflating your ego and invest it in studying and learning from the masters you've disparaged.
Some forums have a section for people to promote themselves so we can keep it out of the discussion areas. That might be a good thing here. If people want to try and sell something, fine. (I do too.) But I try and respect the spirit of this forum, to share ideas, not sell people the Brooklyn Bridge. Maybe we need a section called "shameless self-promotion" for people to try and sell their things. This post is clearly not discussing "theory" - it has more in more in common with a late nigh infomercial trying to sell you magnetic bracelets to cure erectile dysfunction than it does with a music theory discussion. Looking back through her posts, self-promotion seems to be the only reason she's here.
Peace,
Kevin

| | There are no hidden secrets to music
Its all there to study freely
Music theory is not a Dan Brown novel
Music 'theory' is just a mathmatical analysis of the patterns
contained in music after the music has been created ........
I hope nobody gets taken in ..........
The great thing about these forums is that people give their
wisdom freely |

| | Cleft stick... Good evening, all...
Could I appeal please for your collective opinion on the better option for me, please? I have been proposed... Quote:
Any contribution of $1,000 receives: Obtains you the free download, the autographed CD PLUS either a very special full hour of Skype music instruction where I will impart to you the single most important lesson you will ever learn about Western Music Harmonic Theory, which will revolutionise your life, not taught in any music college ON EARTH! Will explain Bach to Coltrane to Rock to any tonal music you dare name in such simplicity you will wonder why this is not ever taught to anyone!!!
OR
a dance remix of my album
| ...and I really cannot make up my mind. Tempted as I am by the dance remix, would I be sacrificing my musical goals by renouncing such information as this? Seems cheap for such enlightenment (and yet the compelling call of the remix makes me oscillate. Decisions, decisions..!).
Or maybe, doubling up the contribution, I could have both..? Yes, yes, surely that's it..! Thanks, folks, for allowing me to clarify my mind through this forum. You are all wonderful. I love you all. Where's my cheque book? No malice intended.

Actually, I couldn't place my finger on it, but the post was reminding me of all that hype for "The Secret" a while back. Pure scholck.
I wonder if Miss Catrina's "secret" also comes with a free set of Ginsu knives.
Peace,

| | If one possesses a great deal of talent, then he can afford to display some measure of attitude. But if one introduces himself with a considerable degree of attitude, arrogance, and anger before allowing his audience to first acknowledge his greatness.... Well, he might be pissing up a rope. Now. There's a little bit of wisdom that you can take to your grave. Or wherever. Cheers. |

| | I'll bet the weather is always nice in her world. Pretty strong self image.
I went to her site to see what I missed in her posted video and found ambient, new age background music.
Maybe a check made out to her will allow her to teach me the secret jazz hand shake so I can hang with the big guys. |

| | Well, I'm annoyed. I was thinking today - while mowing the lawn - of starting a thread called "The Future of Jazz" and talking about.... well...just the future of jazz. I guess my thread would now seem rather shallow. |

Cricket has a future? Well, I'll be dogone! | One group in India just paid $400 million for a new franchise in the Indian Premier League so I guess they're hoping it has a future. |
