If your in key of F or 1st chord is G-, 1st note in 2nd bar is an E... at least that's how I've played it for almost 40 years... I'm sure you could find a recording with something else...sometimes the very first note is a D or a F# . Parker played an E on beat 1 of 2nd bar and usually a D on + of 1 in first bar. Reg

Hi Reg and Jay
For your info both 557jazz standards and the " Parker" omnibook have that note as a G...This probably makes it more confusing..

Cheers Tom

Hey, Reg, in the first phrase of the YouTube vid, he's playing a G there. That surprised me, but check it out ...

Hey all.... My ears suck... It is a G, sorry... I remember working on the original real book... I don't remember which recording we pulled from... but it would just be one of many mistakes... sorry... there are different starting notes also, D or F#... I guess I need to pull out some old recordings... I do have them all, about 10,000... I'll check out some old recordings.... that is if I can hear it... Best Reg
Man it really sounds like a pg version when played with D and G...

By the way the Real Books are full of mistakes. Sometimes it is a wrong single note, sometimes a wrong chord symbol. I think the New Real Book or Aebersold are more trustworthy.
Cheers,
Def

Yea... the Sher books are much better, and yes the original and newer Hal Leonard real books have lots of mistakes... but I don't know if I've ever played a Aebersold chart without a mistake...
