'Jazz Guitar Single Note Soloing, Volume I/II' from Ted Greene is really good I think...

Besides being the best tool for teaching notation William Leavitt's Modern Method for Giuitar (1-2-3) gives a good insight about chord scale theory

I like Mark Levine's, "Jazz Theory" book. I also like Jamey Aebersold's "Dominant 7 Workout," vol. 84.

this is a GREAT book (though a bit $pendy...has gone up 5 or 6 bucks since i bought it couple years ago):

Amazon.com: Creative Jazz Improvisation (4th Edition) (9780131776395): Scott D. Reeves: Books

the mark levine book is also very good, at about half the price.

I have the Scott Reeves book, it's pretty cool. It's used by a lot of jazz teachers in the universities. I actually prefer the Mark Levine book, but if you can swing both, get 'em! As a friend of mine once told me, "I've rarely met a theory book I didn't like."

Jim Knapp at Cornish College of the arts has a great book on chord scale relationships. you can order it from his website. It's simply called "jazz harmony" and covers chord scale relationships in extreme depth. I highly recommend it.

The Berkle Chord-scale theory book should also be mentioned I guess:

Amazon.com: The Chord Scale Theory and Jazz Harmony: Barrie Nettles, Richard Graf: Books
