I saw something that confused me a bit so I want to clear it up

What is meant when someone says "play a Scale in 1st, 2nd,3rd, 4th 7th ect Positions?"

Thanks!

The position refers to the fret where your first finger is located. 1st position is also at times referred to as open position, since your first finger is at the first fret and open strings are easily included. When playing 'in position,' you also want to stick fairly strictly to one-finger-per-fret, but will often use your pinky to reach out an extra fret or first finger to reach back an extra fret.

yes, this is why William Leavitt defined position as one fret behind where the second finger is positioned (or words to that effect). Because the first finger can reach back.
