that song doesn't lend itself too well to a chord melody, but i have done it in a duo with a trumpet player.

the bassline is pretty easy to figure out, and the voicings i use for the head chords are

xx7787

to

xx5565

these of course, with the bassline, move up a half step for the "B" section (the Eb- part)

during his solo, i comped basically D "Dorian" voicings to Eb on the B sec, a little walking bass here and there.

i suppose if this doesn't help, i could write some of it out, but like i said, i just don't think of this as a "chord melody" kind of tune...

It's in the Real book already. Drop the low E down to D and you can play the riff followed by the chord.

Chordwise the it's X77787 to x55565 for th efirst chord and it just moves up a 1/2 step for the Eb mi part.

The bass part is D A B C D E A C D on 6 5 5 5 4 4 5 6 strings. (But let me check that and get back to you after I check the book)

So you have 16 measures in Dmin followed by 8 in Ebmi then back to 8 in Dmin. It should be in the 557 pdf post on this site as well

Heres the riff note wise.

1st) D A B C D E C D (CHORD, CHORD)
2nd) D A B C D E C D A (CHORD, CHORD)
3rd) D A B C D E C D (CHORD, CHORD)
4th) E E E D A (CHORD, CHORD)

Do this 2x and then move up a 1/2 step. Then back, then solos

And don't forget: leave the bass lick out, learn the different head, pick up the tempo a bit and you have "Impressions"!

Yeah, Impressions would work better as a chord melody arrangement than So What, only because So What is basically arranged to begin with regarding the counter melody between the bass and piano/horns.

There is an absolutely awesome arrangement of So What in this book....
It doesn't follow the original version too, too closely though.

Sheet Music Plus - Miles Davis for Solo Guitar by Miles Davis
