| | Somewhere Over the Rainbow Dirk posted the Tommy Emmanuel clip and tabs for Somewhere Over the Rainbow
In going to YouTube to watch it I also listened to a woman named Katherine McPhee sign the song on the American Idol show...very nice...but what I also liked was the guitar accompanying her...does anyone know if there might be a tab or other way to figure out what the player was doing...I can hear the basic root notes and some chords but the arrangement is beautiful...
THANKS |

| | I do remember that performance, and as you say, it was a nice arrangement. Are you wanting to sing it or back a singer with it? I think it was pretty straight forward. I don't recall too many changes to the original.
If you get your hands on the sheet music, you can always take some liberties with the chords selected. Posting here will certainly offer up some suggestions if you post some of the chords. |

| | Hi Derek, thanks for the reply....
I was just curious if anyone had done a transcription of it, just to play it.
I'm not that good at hearing some of the chords...I can figure out the root and a lot of the specific chords but not the voicings that the player does on this version.... |

| | Somewhere Over The Rainbow I loved Dirk's posting of Tommy Emmanuel. Great display of waterfall harmonics, but the real winner (my opinion) is Stanley Jordan. His covers of "Autumn Leaves" and "Willow Weep For Me" are amazing. If you haven't heard him...one word...YouTube. |

| | Johnny Smith did a rendition of it, which is pretty nice in my opinion. It's on his album "The Sound Of The Johnny Smith Guitar".

| | Thanks for that link, Derek (the first one). I'm gonna print that out and learn it. I really like how it's got the chord above the tab, so it makes sense.
Ray Charles has a killer version of that song too. |

| | Hello to the Community I just found your site and hope it can be a wealth of inspiration and appreciation. I'm a beginner at Jazz and amazed by the expanded range of styles any one song can be played. The thought of evolving my own style through this mind-numbing, that's why I'll follow in the footsteps of Masters.
I love Les Paul, Wes Montgomery, Eddie Lang, George Van Eps,
I would like to learn 'Somewhere over the Rainbow", I don't have it in my Books.
I will also help all of you out in anyway I can.
Thank you

| | I'll agree with Eva Cassidy. Very good arrangement. Too bad she isn't still around.
I've also heard a local Kansas City guy named Dan Bliss play it solo a few times. He does an awesome job. I'm not sure if it is an arrangement from someone else or if he did that one up. Either way, he plays it wonderfully.

| | Thanks, pickguard. My playing is pretty rough, but that's a really enjoyable song to play. |
