Default Need some Christmas Jazz help...

I primarily a vocalist that accompanies myself with guitar. I am by no means a lead guitar player, but rather a rhythm guy. I can use the the Real Books as a base and I enjoy playing around with modern songs and "jazzing" them up. For some reason though I am stymied when it comes to Christmas music! Maybe it is because I have heard the same songs forever since I was a mere babe and they are just driven into my mind that way, but I just can't seem to have the same success with them as with other songs. I have down "Christmastime is Here" (that Charlie Brown song) and "My Favorite Things" but I have an opportunity to play a few "Christmas" gigs with some friends and I only need a few more songs (2-3) to play. Most of the lessons I find on YouTube are for solo guitar without vocals so I was really hoping that you guys might be able to help me out here!

I just need a few upbeat Christmas songs that would be crowd pleasers. Really just chords only, like Real Book stuff. It would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hal Leonard's Real Christmas Book has Christmas tunes like the ones you mentioned with lyrics. It also has jazz changes for all of the traditional Christmas carols.

The "Just Jazz Real Book" published by Warner Bros. has Christmas Time is Here, and the Hal Leonard "Standards Real Book has Jule Styne's Christmas Waltz. Check your local public library. Maybe you could check these out and make copies.

Check out Rich Severson's site -- these are not quite what you asked for, but may be helpful in some way . . .
