| | Swingin' Shepard Blues Hi again,
I posted this in the "everything else" column, this may be a more appropriate place for it. Does anyone have the tab for "Swingin' Shepard Blues"? I am looking for the guitar version that is up on youtube and credited to Johnny Smith. I downloaded "guitar pro" tab for it, but it won't open with my "guitar pro 5".
Any help is appreciated, in return, I have a lot of different fake books in pdf I could trade one for it via email.
edit- No worries, after a little work, I'm getting the lines sussed out. Stumble till I stumble on the right phrases... :-) Simple really, just really well done. Still wish I could see it.

| | Wow, putting a Bb key signature on this would've helped it immensely. Very strange to see it written with all the #s in the lines. Ouch. |

| | I think sometimes people TAB stuff by using the fretboard to input the notes - it's much quicker. If they do it this way they don't bother with Key signatures.
I'll tinker with my GP6 and see if I can transpose it. |

| | A couple of things worth mentioning:
1. The first three 1/8 notes of the tune are a pickup to beat one. The PDF has them starting after beat one, so the form is messed up. The original is in C, not Bb, but that's not really a huge issue - unless you play it with a flutist.
2. Moe Koffman should be properly credited as composer. |

Any help is appreciated, | FWIW, Tuxguitar, an open source free download, will open guitar pro files, as well as a bunch of other files.

| | Thank you All! Especially Banksia and Thanks Brad for the tip on Tuxguitar!
If there is a fake book you might want in pdf I have a bunch of them. Colorado Cookbook, Real Book (3 editions I think) etc. Let me know!
Thanks again,
Randy |

Randy | Thank you for reminding me of a great tune. I played it regularly when I was still playing the flute (35+ years ago) and forgot about it. I still have Moe Kaufmann playing it on LP, have to dig it out. Might even inspire me to pull out my flute for my annual 20 minutes or so on it.
Brad
PS Anybody know what key Kaufman wrote it in? It's been so long I can't remember.

| | Aaah, much better, Whois, thanks! Yes, it's in C, and both PDF versions are somewhat fouled up. But, the YouTube vid' is pretty clear, and the tempo is quite reasonable. Y'all should be able to pick it out.
And, yes, Banksia, you're probably right. I admit to being old-skool. I read the notes much faster than I decipher the tab. It took me a bar or two to go, "Hey, this is in Bb. Why all the sharps in the notation?" |
