| | Believe it or not This whole thread has evolved into a new art form "Jazz Rappers". There isn't one place in the whole world where this could happen so sit back and be proud of yourself.Maybe if we were in the back of a taxie sharing the meter. |

| | Just came across this thread.
I'm fairly new to the forum. I'm a good guitarist who's learned that that's probably the biggest challenge to becoming a jazz guitarist. I started another thread to try to help break beginners like me into real songs, to learn quickly how to play an actual standard all the way through without feeling like an idiot ('beginner' is not necessarily the best term).
I have to say that there has been little to no sarcasm, or being looked down upon by the 'greats' on the forum. The information posted has been excellent and the participants have really tried to make that thread work.
I can understand people being intimidated. I am a guitar teacher, and I always used to joke that the difference between a blues player and a jazz player is that a blues player plays with his heart, and a jazz player plays with his brain. There's some truth to the latter part! The amount of technique and lingo can be overwhelming even to very accomplished guitarists. But I honestly feel that I have been very warmly accepted and treated by this community and have already learned enough. Not enough to consider myself a jazz guitarist yet, but enough not to be intimidated :-)
I think this is a great place to hang out and really hope that others, many of whom are lurking in quiet places, will join in. That's what makes it a valuable community.
My humble opinion at least!
Peace,
Tony |

| | yes thats one thing it does appeal to is the different levels the guitarist goes through before the time of being acceptable to the community. |
