Help joe diorio

joe diorio's "fusion guitar" book of guitar solos is based on classic jazz standards and progressions. does anyone recognize the standards used? i am assuming everyone knows joe diorio's unique improvisational talent and wealth of written and recorded music. all i've been able to determine is that bossa nova solo #1&2 are the standard "blue bossa". any help unearthing the connection would be appreciated. thanks

I don't know how many people have that book. If you listed a chord progression here, I'd bet you'd get your answer.

The second tune looks like Stella.

Google only showed up to page 19

thanks for that input. one of the problems i'm having is recognizing all the chord substitutions used for the standard changes. i don't know how i could present them in this forum. thanks for searching the web and looking at some pages.

I'm going from memory here since I don't have the book handy any more, so someone else may be more accurate. I used that book a lot years ago when it first came out. Used to know all those solos. Probably couldn't play them note-for-note anymore, but still use a lot of the individual phrases.

Let's see...

Blue Bossa
Stella
Summertime
I Love you
Bb Blues
Wave

Can't remember if that was the order. If I remember correctly, there were 2 solos per style - bossa, bebop, swing, etc.

Paul

thanks so much for those insights, and not having seen the book in some time. it's made a mark on me too. i think now most of the book's contents have been identified. a couple are left, but one might be an exercise because it modulates up in major thirds through several keys. each key with it's ll-7,v7,1maj7 progression.

Sound like a "warm up" for Giant Steps if it moves in major 3rds.
