Blending Vocal and guitar

Hi all, I am a good singer and a good jazz guitarist. I am trying to blend the two in order to play out eventually. I seem to have trouble doing the two at once in practice and usually end up finishing the song instrumentally. I don't know if it's the rythem or meter that throws me off. Any tips would be very appreciated. Thanks people!.

A good singer and jazz guitarist? Being neither, I suggest (a) greatly simplify your accompaniment while singing, just comp chords on the 1 of each bar --or-- (b) double any single-note lines ala George Benson, and (c) practice a lot. If meter is throwing you, work with a drum machine or metronome.
