| | amp/natural sound mix take 2: Autumn in New York hey all...
well, I couldn't figure out a way to do two seperate mixes on this one, since memory is running very low on my recording device (gotta clear some space, but got back stuff up first...but i digress)
so here's a new tune with a new mix--autumn in new york. I like the tone here quite a bit better. same mics, same amp, same guitar (however, a little background buzz i didn't notice while recording that leads me to beleive a cable's going bad sonewhere...not too noticable, but i notice it)
anyway, thought it might be fun if folks were to guess "percentages" on electric tone vs. acoustic tone that i used for the final mix here.
and of course, let me know if you like the tone. This one's got potential, i think...I'm definitely (if you couldn't tell) a fan of this guitar. ezFolk: Jeff matz |

| | Well, Jeff, this one sounds sooo much nicer!
The warmth of the guitar comes up front here, that chill from the other mix is gone, and I can see (or rather; hear...) why you have entered into extramarital relations with this one...
I sure dig it, and you know I'm all for a warmer, rounder sound. And then of course one would have to take into consideration the fact that I truly dig your playing too. Musicality goes so well with a nice guitar, yup.
Peace

| | Again, nice playing as always. I very much like the addition of an open string now and then! (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
As far as the tone is concerned: By George, you've got it! I'm guessing 75% electric and 25% acoustic? |

| | I'm guessing 25% mic.
Nice tone this time Mr. B, I like it much better than the tone on Laura.
I'm not hearing any stereo on this. That is another area you may want to explore. There are a few ways to do it like,
Split the signal, pan hard left and right on the two tracks and
delay one side by say 4 to 7 milli-seconds
or, eq each side differently
or, put some or more reverb or echo on one side
or, record with two different models of mics
or, put a little chorus on one side
or some combination of the above.
You just experiment until you get a spacious stereo sound. You may like it.
The jist of it is to make the two tracks sound slightly different in some way and pan them hard right and hard left. (If the tracks have no or very little differences and you pan them hard right and left the sound collapses to the middle and it sounds and is mono).
Edit, with this recording perhaps you could put the mic hard right and play around with the other signal some degree to left and see if you get stereo. Maybe that would work.

| | 100% different sound from the Laura recording. I like this sound much better -- there's no comparison. I can't even tell that there's an acoustic mike being mixing in -- it sounds like just the amp to me. Not that that is a bad thing!
(Great playing too!)
Now are you going to let the TDPRI crowd hear it, so that they can ask for some twang and jangle? |

| | well, i'm pretty much sure anyone who wanted to guess has guessed.
the answer: less than 10%
until i invest in a condenser mic, i've found that just about any acoustic signal whatsoever just doesn't cut the mustard. I mixed a slight amount in here just to do it basically, but a better mix at this point would be no acoustic tone at all!
despite the buzz coming from what i think is a bum cable, i'm rather happy with this recording. thanks to all who played along, and for all the nice comments...maybe i'll put up a whole song sometime again soon with this new guitar. |

| | Very nice mr Beaumont. I really enjoyed listening to some of the tunes in your player. You have wonderful technique and generate a great guitar tone. I'll be back to hear more for sure. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
