It's always a tad delicate replying honestly and candidly to such requests, without seeming harsh, but I'll try (
as you asked...). First of all, congratulations, you come through very well, with an excellent quality of recording, spot-on amp settings (
although the slight tremolo is a 'cheat'..!), a good backing track and a fine guitar. Overall, you're doing just fine.
It seems that, although you claim to be newly arrived to jazz, you have already a fair 'baggage' on the guitar. This is what I found to be the most distracting, as you seem to be using a fair number of 'stock' techniques from your past playing. Nothing inherently wrong with that (
I'm very far from being a jazz 'purist' myself...), but I get the impression that you're leaning on those licks, rather than really expressing what's in the music around. I would recommend slowing down those trilly hammer-ons and short, stock, runs, and working out a more structured 'melodic' approach. (
There, you see how this can come across as pompous, harsh, unfeeling criticism..? Only you know what you want to play; who am I to disagree..?) I simply find that there's a certain 'stilted' load of fingering going on, and would have appreciated less speed and licks, and more 'thought'.
OK, I'll stop, although the damage has been done and I've offended a fellow learner who has already more under his fingers than I have managed in 40 years (
but then again, I'm slow...).
No, really, you're doing fine, it's just that I'm somewhat clumsy in my ignorant appraisal. Forget I said anything. Ignore this post.
I'll get my coat now...
(
sounds of door quitely closing over fading mutterings..."Well he did ask for criticism. I tried, really I did...")
