Default New Mini Lesson - Harmonized Run

YouTube Video

This melodic idea uses both the G minor pentatonic scale, and the G aeolian, or pure minor if you will. It’s a great little idea that you can both use “as is”, and also really easily “milk” – just use bits of it, and develop the idea into larger melodical stretches.

It’s an idea I personally use a lot, and players like Pat Metheny and Jim Hall also use ideas very similar to this one quite a lot in their playing. It works great when you solo with a clean tone, but would work equally great with a slightly more saturated, bluesy tone. It’s an idea that will work in any style, from jazz to blues to rock to country.

Cool. Useful idea. There's a similar study in the latest Just Jazz Guitar Magazine in a column by Pete Rogine I believe.

Good stuff thanks.
