Default Recorded a Composition

Hey everybody:

I don't often get to participate in the practical standards threads; this might actually be my first time posting a recording of myself. This is a song that I wrote a few months ago that's gotten reasonable acclaim at my university. I finally got a chance to record it last night, and I'm pretty happy with the results. The instrumentation is guitar, stand-up bass, piano, saxophone, and drums, and it's pretty out, but I wouldn't call it avant. The link also has the chart if you're interested.

Also, for you producers out there, critique that too! I did all of the mixing and mastering as well as the songwriting...

Thank you in advance everybody.

Hey Mike,

I went to your page and noticed that file is 83 mb and you have to download it to play it. That's a big file and I don't generally download files if I don't have to.

Perhaps you could get more listeners if you posted it somewhere where it could be played without downloading. (Myspace, soundcloud, box.net etc.)

If you're concerned about quality, note that 192 or 160 kbs mp3 files are pretty good quality and most can't hear a difference between those and a wave file.

Just saying...

Hey Fep, thanks for your response. What's funny is that I usually don't download off of the forum myself and I didn't even think about it when I posted the song. I just made a shiny new Soundcloud account (as I hadn't had one before) just for this occasion.

I'd call that "ear catching!" I like it - dramatic, and climaxes nicely. I can hear this as a big band chart. Good job.

From the first notes I instantly got that

" Old Timey "

feeling , very cool man .

Slow compositions when not exicuted well suck big time , this is not that at all , it's really quite well done .

Details now please - mics - software ? etceteras

Sincerely :
Hurricane Ramon

That was nice. A good tune to play live in a jazz coffee shop in Tokyo.

Thanks, Mississippi! I'm not sure if I'd be allowed to play it in many coffee shops in the same way that it's recorded because it gets so loud towards the end But I think I'm going to arrange it to be more calm and contained so I can do it at restaurants and the likes.
