| | Very nice! I really dig they way you were able to pull various influences together and have them sound "right". There's a lot of guys who try and you get the impression they are thinking "country lick here, rockabilly lick here, etc." You definitely have your own thing happening. Very cool! |

Thanks again! |

I am assuming you mean Pat Metheny(not Pat Martino)?
I don't think I have, but he is one of my main influences, his first solo on the album "The road to you" influenced me to start playing jazz when I was in high-school. I have listened to him a lot over the years as well as John Scofield, John Abercrombie and Jim Hall.I was also going through a big fusion period where Holdsworth and Scott Henderson and John McLaughlin where my main guys. I haven't transcribed any of them though, I haven't done many transcriptions at all.
Thanks again! |

| | I was going to ask you about your development Soco. Maybe you could shed some light. You have great command of the instrument. I've seen guys like you that have natural talent. Everything seems effortless. I'm looking forward to buying your music and checking it out more. There are some great players on this forum. So many unique styles. I am so impressed with the top players that hang here. Soco among the very best IMO.

| | Soco,
I did mean Pat Metheny not martino. And thats interesting to hear because it seems like you have a nice variety of blueprints(lines) at your disposal many of which sound Methenyish and i really dug em. Were most of them created by you, still with influence from other people? if you get what im saying. |

I agree that there is a lot of great players on this forum and I enjoy listening here in the showcase section.
I think I have been working pretty hard on my instrument the last year, and I have played more gigs and rehearsal-sessions than I used to. Some of the techniques I have been working on for years are finally starting to come together. I switched over to economy picking a few years ago and us that in combination with hammer-ons and pull off's. I also play a lot of classical guitar-mainly Bach and practice scales on an acoustic steelstring guitar. I have also worked a lot on blues playing and country playing, I think some of these shows up in my jazz playing.
Thank you again for listening. |

I think Metheny's style is really guitar-like and I really like the way he is using the whole instrument. I don't really work out any lines, I just try to play what I hear or feel in the moment. Obviously there are some structures and concepts that I repeat, I think it is a sum of many influences-Metheny included, and even some elements from other styles of music.
Thanks again! |

| | That's outstanding Soco. Worth every second I spent listening to it, and I can't say that about too many things I have to spend time listening to. I have to come check out some of your gigs in NYC.

Scott Henderson was a major influence for me from when I wsa in high school to my early 20's. Back then I played every solo with overdrive, light strings etc.
I have changed my playing quite a bit since then, but I think this background still comes out from time to time.
Thanks for listening. |
