Music Tune in Progress: "Sobek" by JonnyPac and Moondrool

Just the head from a rehearsal:
Sobek - head only (work in progress) by Jonathan Pac Cantin on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

This tune is SCARY to solo over. Very fun challenge.

Originally I was thinking of playing it over and over like Nefertiti and letting the rhythm section build up layers of sound...

Any thoughts?

Cool Johnny...

I don't have any critique for you, it's just out of comfort zone theoretically, having so much non functional harmony. It does seem that the melody, with it's rhythmic and melodic motifs, is what holds it together. Perhaps the melody could continue as you suggested and a soloist could play over it or around it.

I'll tell you for me it's both melancholy and creates an anxious type of vibe.

Thanks, Fep. We have not touched it in a couple weeks. Next wed at rehearsal I'll toy with it some more. Melancholy and anxious is right! Hear that chromatic bass creeping up up and up?

I like this tune a lot, nice melodic-motivs and harmony underneath.
I feel like it is a bit too slow though. It works with that loose nefertiti-like feel, but it could also work really well as a faster straight 8's tune.
Nice job!

I hear ya! It needs to pick up and lean forward- the sax player suggested it being behind the beat and loungy. Thanks for checking it out.
