| | JonnyPac's New Band: Moondrool (Live Recording) Hey all y'all,
Moondrool is my latest original modal jazz/rock/funk band. We've been at it for a little over a month now. Last weekend we opened for a live midnight performance of The Rock Horror Show in Sacramento... I was not super happy with the way we played that particular night, but someone recorded a song in the audience. Here it is, warts and all. Not too shabby for a bootleg!
Waltz of the Fingers - Moondrool http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9229110/Live...%20fingers.mp3
EDIT: Here's another one from a rehearsal. 2nd time playing the tune. It's an original by the pianist, Buddy. I'm pretty happy with it so far. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9229110/Moondrool/ripples.mp3

I really like that the tune goes to swing on the B part of the tune. |

| | Thanks! We just had a good rehearsal last night. Working out kinks on a 16 tune set. All originals except two by Andrew Hill and one by Cinematic Orchestra. We'll get some better audio clips up as time goes on. |

| | If you guys were in my area, I would pay to see you. Nice stuff. (Funny about the kid that did not like the walking bass part of the first song, you just can't please everyone). |

| | Man, some other band just popped up with their debut gig on oct 29th as "Moon Drool". As you know my band "Moondrool" has been working since September. What are the odds? They even blocked me and my band-mates from seeing their Facebook page. WEAK SAUCE! Get your own name and do your homework. I made damn well sure that Moondrool was unique when we started by searching far and wide online. Now all of our potential fans/listeners will have to sort out which band is the right one. Maybe I should rename the band Ledzeppelin or Pinkfloyd. Grrrr.
Sorry for the rant. Today has been crappy so far.
PS here's a post from back when I settled on Moondrool: Quote:
Ok... I just had a long night of "what should we name the band???". We started off with The Hoopy Froods, but bailed 'cause a psychedelic rock group from the UK was clever first. In fact, just about EVERY possible name from the Hitchhikers Guide has been used by a band... Magrathea, Vogon Poetry, Babel Fish, Zaphod, Earthman, Don't Panic...
We finally turned to poet e e cummings for a fresh word... Moondrool. That's it! A spacerock meets modal jazz-funk band called Moondrool. Wish us luck; we have two big gigs booked in Oct opening for a 12am live show of Rocky Horror in Sacramento.

| | Sounds great, JP..... I've always liked your original tunes and they work well in the context of a larger group. Like 'Waltz of the Fingers' especially..... good stuff. |

| | Hey Jonny - been listening to all this stuff and think it's very good. I really dig the tone you get, and I'm not talking about your amplifier or the knobs on your guitar - the tone that comes from your *hands.* Again, it goes back to the ear. And hard work. Keep up the fine work.

PS here's a post from back when I settled on Moondrool: | You know, I just remembered: somewhere on an external hard drive, I have a little freeware gem called "Random Word Generator" -- and another, "Random Name Generator." They do the obvious, but it's uncanny how "real" some of these random words sound, because the program is coded to adhere to the phonetic rules of word construction (e.g., c-v-c-v; c-v-c-c-v-c; c-v-c; etc -- where "c" is "consonant and "v" is vowel. So the words are always "pronounceable" -- like "soljagg" (c-v-c-c-v-c-c). You can set the phonetic patterns. Very good tool for fiction writers - also would work for this! I'll send it next time I run across it. Or Google it - they might still be available. |

| | Haha... We used a band-name generator for kicks. We got "Undiscovered Turd" as a potential name. That really cracked us up. |
