| | How Insensitive (Group Collaborative) OK, here's the backing track. I couldn't upload the original one due to copyright issues (it was an aebersold) but this one was generated with BIAB and is the same tempo. SoundClick artist: jackzucker - page with MP3 music downloads
Just post a followup with your version! |

| | I love these group participation posts and this is an awesome tune. However, it's a bit intimidating for me to post my playing on this, you've set the bar awfully high. (I have an inconvienant excuse though, I'm still living at the hospital and don't have recording equipment). |

| | i'm going to have to record this with a live band. I have no problem with ppl using backing tracks but I just can't play with them, I tried to do a few takes but I just can't do it. Which is my own problem, lots of people end up working really well with them. I have pretty regular sessions so I'll just do it at the next one. |

| | Hey Jack, Count me in. I downloaded the backing track and it is excellent for Play-A-Long & practise. Which style (BIAB style) did you use?

| | Dug the alternate approach, Morten. It might have been cooler without the programmed percussion/drums. I know they imply the groove you're hearing, but they're kind of distracting relative to the good stuff you have going on here. Just my 2.

Jack, you already knew I liked yours a bunch...Morten--excellent! THe new cool, man!
Anyway here's mine...Had enough time for one quick take...I'd like to blame the playing on my finger, but the truth is, it feels pretty good today--there's only a few instances where it hurt on this take (and one of 'em's probably my best line!)
Enjoy: ezFolk: Jeff matz |

(Er ... you'll note that I haven't posted anything, as yet. ) | Thank you, glad you liked it!
I don't think the percussion is distracting. It's stiff and monotone, and the drum sound isn't very jazzy, but I did in in one minute, and it's there just to show how the arrangement could be, the basic groove.
It's quite possible I'll use this arrangement with my trio, I though it was fun to play on, and many opportunities to explore both with the groove and the chords.. |

| | Hey Guys, Wonderful playing, each version brings a different style and sound, truly a great learning experience.
Would anyone care to elaborate on how you approached this song? Chord tone, scales, arp choices, and whether you are thinking about outlining the chords, or using muti-bar phrases with scales?
Thanks for any help, and it is wonderful to watch you guys play.

tytlfamily | No problem, if you point to specific places in the solo. Can't really go through the whole thing..
j/k - it's Aminor pentatone fram start to finnish. ;-) |

| | Ok, thanks, how about the first 8 bars, looks like Dmin9, C#Dim, Cmin6, G7.
seems like you could use D Dorian, or B flat Maj scales over that first 8 bars, except for the C#Dim, maybe use an Arpeggio over that C#Dim?

| | I think morten might be having a little bit of a laugh there...
You didn't ask me specifically, but I think of that C# dim. As a A7b9...my playing is almost all arpeggio based in my take. |

| | Hey Morten... Your track almost sounds like you could go into 3/4 or 6/8, in two feel... afro cuban groove... the tunes pretty long, and always a little depressing to me, Not your version... the standard Jobin version... anyway... might be cool feel... Reg |

| | How Insensitive This is a great tune and everyone has a different approach to it. Wow! What a great learning opportunity! All of you are really good guitar players and this is like one big jam session where all can participate. I will do my best to get something out tomorrow.

Reg | Yeah, it's that 3 over four thing, I like that, could go either way. I needed to do something about the groove, whenever I try to solo over these tunes in straight bossa nova I bore myself to death. you know, that feeling when every phrase you play seems utterly un-relevant.. |

tytlfamily | Not D dorian, D minor
My reharm is | Dm | Eb7 A7 | Cm6 | Db7 G7 | I guess it's a tritone sub of some kind.
So in the first chorus for bar two it's Eb mixo#11 / A7alt stuff, same thing with Db/G7. C dorian, or D minor pentatone for Cm6
Also, I like to play Bb minor pentatone over Eb7 and A7alt and just replace the 7th with the 6th. Or keep the 7th for a slightly outside sound! For example:
Dm - A minor pentatone
Eb7 A7 - Bb minor pentatone
Cm - D minor pentatone
Db7 G7 - Ab minor pentatone
these aproaches would work over the regular chords too! |

So . . . what were you eating for breakfast? I think I should add it to my diet if it'll help me play that well!
Great stuff - by all five who have posted, thanks for sharing.
