Default Cubase 5 Notation Editor

I am using Finale Notepad now to compose and create charts, but I would like to have a recording package as well--something w/ better virtual instrument sounds and editing capabilities. I noticed that Cubase has a notation editor so I am assuming you can build charts and have them play using virtual instruments? Is this correct? Anyone use both and can compare the notation portion? Is there something better for this type of function?

FYI>>>I don't use midi but rather enter the notation manually using the keyboard and mouse.

Thanks.

you could use stand-alone versions of your virtual instruments (if available) using a virtual midi port driver (midi yoke on pc).

if you decide to go cubase you'll have to deal with the full pro DAW workflow but as far as i know, the score editor in Cubase is the best available in any of the big DAWs.
